Major soft drinks getting rid of high fructose corn syrup

2/25/2009

PLANO, Texas Major beverage makers are eliminating high fructose corn syrup from their products and replacing it with sugar.

Snapple, Pepsi and Mountain Dew are changing a 20-year-old trend of adding the cheaper high fructose corn syrup to their beverages in light of significant research done in recent years linking high fructose corn syrup to obesity and disease.

Snapple’s decision will result in a 40-calorie reduction from some drinks and, according to the company, will add taste to their products.

Prices of the products will not change.
