4/1/2009

HOLLIS, Maine Poland Spring joined the Trust for Public Land in announcing the successful completion of the Indian Cellar conservation project. The company is donating $150,000 to help permanently conserve the 58 acres of land near its Hollis bottling facility known as Indian Cellar.

The land runs for a mile along the Saco River and will be permanently protected from development for public enjoyment.

"Preserving this land is important to the people of Hollis and Buxton," said Bill Maples, Maine operations director for Poland Spring. "As a member of this community employing over 400 people in York County, Poland Spring is honored to partner with our neighbors and the Trust for Public Land to help protect this natural resource rich in environmental and historical significance."

The $1 million project was funded by the Land for Maine's Future (LMF) program ($375,000), the town of Hollis ($250,000), private donors ($375,000), and a $150,000 donation from Poland Spring. Directly across the river on the Buxton side is Pleasant Point Park. The 58-acre section of the river is a popular place for boating and fishing.
