Tropicana rolls out new low-calorie orange juice

3/31/2009

CHICAGO Tropicana has launched an orange juice with 50% less sugar and calories, and no artificial sweeteners.

Trop50 is a naturally-sweetened orange juice with 50 calories, a full day's supplement of vitamin C, and is a good source of potassium. It also provides 10% of the daily recommended intake of antioxidant vitamins A and E.

Trop50 has also tapped award-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick as the beverage's spokesperson, starring in a new national advertising campaign, which launches this week.

"It's not just that Trop50 offers half the sugar and calories," said Susan Logue, Ph.D and Director of R&D. "It's how we make it happen together with the groundbreaking use of Stevia that make this product an exciting new choice for consumers."

The all natural, no calorie sweetener in Trop50 is PureVia, which is made from a high purity extract of the sweetest component of the stevia plant called Reb A. In Trop50, PureVia enhances the sweetness and flavor of juice made from fresh oranges, naturally. Trop50's new innovation replaces Tropicana's previous Light 'n Healthy orange juice beverage that was made with an artificial sweetener.

Trop50 is available in three varieties - Trop50 Pulp Free; Trop50 Some Pulp; and Trop50 Pulp Free Calcium & Vitamin D, which provides an excellent source of both nutrients. All varieties are packaged in 59-ounce cartons, which are available for a suggested retail price of $3.59, and Trop50 Pulp Free Calcium & Vitamin D is also available in 12-ounce bottles, which are available for a suggested retail price of $1.69. Trop50 is currently rolling out nationwide and available wherever Tropicana Pure Premiumproducts are sold.
