What’s Hot: Swimming with the veggies

10/26/2009

NORWALK, Conn. —Now kids can get one-third serving of vegetables in their Goldfish snacks. Pepperidge Farm recently introduced Goldfish Garden Cheddar snack crackers, smiling fish crackers boosted with vegetables. The snacks, on shelves now, should be a popular choice for the school year.

Michael Simon, SVP and general manager of Pepperidge Farms’ snacks division, said the company launched the crackers “in an effort to help moms provide wholesome, tasty snacks their kids will love with the addition of vegetables as an unexpected bonus.”

That’s good news, since recent research from the Produce for Better Health Foundation found that 96% of children ages 2 to 12 years fell short of consuming two-to-five cups of fruits and vegetables a day—the daily intake recommended by the Department of Health and Human Services in its Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

The crackers are available in two flavors—cheddar and Flavor Blasted Xtra cheddar—and retail for $2.19.
