  • Del Monte Foods sells canned foods business for $1.7 billion

    SAN FRANCISCO — Del Monte Foods will sell its consumer products business to Del Monte Pacific Limited for $1.675 billion in order to focus on the pet products market, Del Monte Foods said.

  • Menasha Packaging wins 13 design awards at Shopper Marketing Expo

    NEENAH, Wis. — A company that makes packaging for manufacturers ranging from food companies to drug makers has received more than a dozen awards at a marketing exposition in Chicago.

    Menasha Packaging announced that it won 13 Design of the Time Awards at the 2013 Shopper Marketing Expo, including three gold, two silver and eight bronze awards in the drug store, mass-merchandise, specialty and supermarket channels. The DOT Awards recognize creative in-store activation tactics and campaigns.

    NEW YORK — Craig Dubitsky, known for helping to bring to market such brands as Method, EOS and Help Remedies, and more recently Hello oral care products, was characterized as a giant killer in a blog published by AdAge Monday.

  • Study: U.S. leads omnichannel shopping overall, but trails in many categories

    NEW YORK — Thirty-seven percent of shoppers in the United States are shopping omnichannel, compared with 29% around the globe, according to a new study.

    The study, conducted by GfK, found that consumers are "freely mingling" in-store visits, online product research and other information sources when making purchases. The extent of omnichannel shopping varies by category and country and appears tied to mobile device penetration. The study was based on 8,400 interviews in 14 countries.

  • Yankee Candle introduces Thanksgiving fragrances

     SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. — Yankee Candle Co. has introduced its collection of scented, Thanksgiving-themed candles, the company said Monday.

    Yankee announced the launch of the Thanksgiving Dinner Collection, which includes such fragrances as Turkey with Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce and Sweet Potato Pie. For each candle sold, $1 will be donated to the USO. The donations will take place between Sept. 30 and Oct. 31, and will support the USO's Holiday Box program for military personnel stationed overseas.

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has launched a streaming digital video service nationwide, the retailer said Wednesday.
