1/28/2021

Giant announced that it has been given the 2020 Gold Plate Award from the FMI Foundation.

The award was given to the Carlisle, Pa.-based retailer in the COVID-19 Heroes category, which recognizes charitable programs that help families share meals together during the ongoing pandemic.

“The Giant Company is fiercely committed to our purpose of connecting families for a better future; it drives all we do and is our reason for being,” Nicholas Bertram, president of The Giant Company said. “I want to thank our more than 35,000 team members who bring our purpose to life each day, especially over the past year. They are the heart of our company and the communities they care for, and it is an honor to have their ongoing efforts recognized by the FMI Foundation as a best practice among the nation’s food retailers.”

During its National Family Meals Month, held Sept. 2020, Giant launched its For Today’s Table platform, aimed at celebrating the importance of family meals in creative and relevant ways.

Through this initiative, the retailer was able to donate the cash equivalent to provide 100 meals to neighbors in need via a social media campaign, as well as illustrate the importance of families connecting through food with television and radio spots.

“The Gold Plate Awards highlight the outstanding work the food industry is doing as part of the Family Meals Movement,” David Fikes, executive director of the FMI Foundation said. “Family meals help us stay strong by boosting fruit and vegetable consumption and connectiveness, which support overall personal health. The food industry continues to provide shoppers creative and easy meal solutions as families face new shopping and meal habits brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
