The Fruth Pharmacy Annual Golf Event had a special reason to celebrate this year. At the event, now in its 33rd year, the Fruth Scholarship Program announced the start of another scholarship to help pharmacy students at Ohio Northern University. The scholarship will provide two $1,000 awards each year and is being funded by Mike Fruth, a pharmacy graduate of Ohio Northern University.
Beau Slater, director of development for Ohio Northern University, was present at the golf event to kick off the announcement of the Mike Fruth Polar Bear Pharmacy Scholarship.
“I wanted to give back to the school that helped me become a pharmacist," Fruth said. "I have had a close and positive relationship with Ohio Northern as an alumnus attending events and recruiting potential students for Fruth Pharmacy.”

Fruth added, “I have met many of the ONU students and talked with them about the financial struggles they face in earning a degree in pharmacy. It is nice to be able to help them.”
Michael (Mike) Edward Fruth was born on Aug. 7, 1952. He was born three months before his parents, Jack and Frances Fruth, opened Fruth Pharmacy in November 1952 in Point Pleasant, W.V.
The oldest of the five Fruth children, he knew early on that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a pharmacist in the family company. Mike attended WVU for several years and then transferred to Ohio Northern University for Pharmacy School. Mike liked the smaller campus and appreciated the individual help he received in his education. Following graduation in 1976, Mike began working as a staff pharmacist for Fruth Pharmacy.
The Fruth Scholarship Program provides over 60 scholarships each year. Information about available scholarships and how individuals may apply can be found on the Fruth website at fruthpharmacy.com.
