  • From ‘wearables to ther-ables’

    Unit shipments for wearable devices were expected to drive about $32 billion in revenue by 2019 — more than three times the $10 billion in revenue the market saw in 2013, according to a 2015 IHS Technology white paper on the wearables market. Beside the business applications IHS identified, it also focused on consumer possibilities in the wearables market — as fitness trackers, health data collectors and beyond.

    IRI recently began tracking sales of TENS devices as part of its first-aid accessories grouping. Many retailers have created a synergistic merchandising adjacency of TENS devices and external analgesic rubs, which is particularly relevant as Chattem’s Icy Hot brand is a leader across both categories.

  • Product innovation from top brands drives growth

    Adult incontinence — also called by the more consumer-friendly category monikers of overactive bladder or bladder control — is one of the larger categories within OTC that’s growing at an almost double-digit rate. The category as a whole is trending 8.5% higher for the 52 weeks ended Feb. 21 on a huge base — $1.7 billion in sales across total U.S. multi-outlets, according to IRI.

  • Perrigo launches store brand Glucerna equivalent

    DUBLIN - Perrigo on Tuesday announced the first-to-market launch of the over-the-counter store brand equivalent to Abbott's Glucerna aseptic adult nutritional shake for people with diabetes. First shipments of this new store brand aseptic shake have already been initiated. 
     
  • New PBM SentinelRx launches

     
    DETROIT — New pharmacy benefit manager SentinelRx announced its launch on Tuesday, noting that it aims to create a custom pharmacy experience for customers through high transparency and personalized service. 
     
    The company said it uses web-based pharmacy benefit system MERLIN, which has 16 integrated modules that can aid in personalizing service for each client. It provides drug access through a network of more than 66,000 pharmacies in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 
  • LynFit Nutrition introduces a new LynFit Lean Bar

    NORWALK, Conn. - LynFit Nutrition on Tuesday announced the relaunch of LynFit Lean Bar, which now contains organic and non-GMO ingredients. According to the company, the Lean Bar Advanced is the only clean protein bar on the market with no more than two grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiber.  
     
    The new sports nutrition bar was eveloped by celebrity fitness and metabolic weight loss expert Lisa Lynn, Martha Stewart's personal trainer for 13 years and a regular guest on "The Dr. Oz Show."
