  • Skinnygirl brand launches new line of zero-calorie liquid sweeteners

    CARMEL, Ind. — Skinnygirl announced today a new line of zero-calorie liquid sweeteners made with natural monk fruit, agave, and stevia that will soon hit store shelves.

    The new Skinnygirl Sweeteners are concentrated, zero-calorie, gluten-free and carb-free containing 80 to 160 servings — depending on the sweetener type. They come in slim, convenient 1.68-oz. bottles that fit easily in a purse.

  • Mylan can launch authorized generic Parkinson's drug under settlement

    PITTSBURGH — Mylan and Orion Corp. have settled a patent-infringement suit over a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease, Mylan said Thursday.

    The generic drug maker had filed with the Food and Drug Administration for a generic version of Orion's Stalevo (carpidopa; levodopa; entacapone) tablets, used to treat idiopathic Parkinson's to substitute for immediate-release carbidopa/levodopa and entacapone administered separately.

  • Mobile telemedicine clinics hit the road in Miami

    MIAMI — A new program in south Florida will provide health care for children in underserved communities using mobile telemedicine.

    The Children's Health Fund and Verizon Foundation announced the launch of the first "telemedicine clinics on wheels," connecting children to specialists at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Fifteen of the mobile clinics will be equipped with the latest health information technology from the Verizon Foundation.

  • CoverMyMeds has processed 5 million prior authorizations

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Prior-authorization software company CoverMyMeds reached a milestone Tuesday as the 5 millionth PA request was sent through its system.

    CoverMyMeds said the announcement came a day after the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs published the first e-prescribing standard to include the electronic PA implementation guide. CoverMyMeds has worked with the industry to develop the standard and said it was the first provider software vendor to use the standard at scale.

  • Health Canada approves GSK's Tafinlar, Mekinist

    MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Canadian regulators have approved two drugs made by GlaxoSmithKline for treating skin cancer, GSK said Wednesday.

    The drug maker announced Health Canada's approval of Tafinlar (dabrafenib mesylate) and Mekinist (trametinib) in patients with melanoma that can't be removed by surgery or has spread to other parts of the body.

  • Lupin wins approval for generic diabetes drug

    MUMBAI, India — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic diabetes drug made by Lupin, the company said.

    Lupin, based in India, received approval for metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets in the 500-mg and 1,000-mg strengths. The drug is a generic version of Santarus' Glumetza.

    Glumetza had sales of about $144 million during the 12-month period that ended in March, according to IMS Health. The drug is an extended-release formulation of metformin hydrochloride, a widely prescribed drug used for treating Type 2 diabetes.
