    OAKLAND, Calif. — Häagen-Dazs is starting off the warmer months with the debut of ice cream's lighter, refreshing cousin, gelato. Available nationwide in April, Häagen-Dazs gelato will be offered in seven Italian-inspired flavors: stracciatella, sea salt caramel, dark chocolate chip, vanilla bean, cappuccino, limoncello and black cherry amaretto.

  • Putney aims to compete in generic pet drug market with new launch

    PORTLAND, Maine — Putney has launched a generic version of a veterinary skin infection drug, the company said.

    Putney announced the launch of cefpodoxime proxetil, a generic version of Pfizer's Simplicef, used to treat certain skin infections in dogs. Putney said its product was the only generic version of Simplicef approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is selling a special edition of Justin Timberlake's new studio album, the mass-merchandise retailer said Monday.

    Target said its edition of Timberlake's album, "The 20/20 Experience," would feature two bonus tracks, "Dress On" and "Body Count."

  • Bartell Drugs introduces PharmaSmart kiosks

    SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs has introduced PharmaSmart blood-pressure testing kiosks at all 58 of its stores, the regional retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

    Bartell said it was the first drug store chain in the Pacific Northwest to provide the new kiosks, made by Rochester, N.Y.-based PharmaSmart International.

    PURCHASE, N.Y. — Mountain Dew, a product of PepsiCo, announced today the release of Kickstart, a breakfast drink combining Mountain Dew with real fruit juice.

    "Our consumers told us they are looking for an alternative to traditional morning beverages — one that tastes great, includes real fruit juice and has just the right amount of kick to help them start their days," said Greg Lyons, VP marketing for Mountain Dew. "We heard them loud and clear and created a completely new offering with Kickstart to give them exactly what they asked for."

  • FDA approves generic diabetes drug

    SILVER SPRING, Md. - The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic diabetes drug made by Macleods Pharma, according to agency records.

    The FDA approved Macleods' pioglitazone hydrochloride tablets in the 15 mg, 30 mg and 45 mg strengths.

    The drug is a generic version of Takeda's Actos, branded and generic versions of which had sales of about $2.7 billion during the 12-month period that ended in August 2012, according to IMS Health.
