NEW YORK —
AdAge on Thursday attributed higher sales of hand sanitizer and disinfectants to the rise in Ebola-related media reports.
According to the report, hand sanitizer sales were up nearly 8% for the four weeks ended Sept. 7, citing IRI data, and disinfectant sales were up 12.9% for the four- and 12-week periods ended Sept. 27, citing Nielsen data as provided by Deutsche Bank.
In addition to the Ebola outbreak coming out of West Africa, news of a new strain of enterovirus late this summer may also have boosted sales of sanitizers and disinfectants, Bernstein Research analyst Ali Dibadj told AdAge.
