6/8/2010

SAN DIEGO Following the completion of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores' 2010 Marketplace Conference, exhibitors donated remaining products Tuesday from the trade show to the San Diego Food Bank to help those in need in the community.

More than 450 product exhibitors attended the conference, representing 145,000 pharmacies and retail stores, with such merchandise as food, toiletries, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products. The products will help struggling San Diego families and individuals defray the cost of these goods from household expenses and allocate more money to food budgets. Nearly two truck loads, filled with 6,856 lbs. of consumer goods, to the San Diego Food Bank.

Fifty food bank volunteers collected supplies from the exhibitors and loaded the supplies onto the food bank’s semitrucks. The products will be distributed to the community through the food bank’s network of more than 350 nonprofit partners, including churches, soup kitchens, food pantries, senior centers, centers for the disabled, low-income day care centers and shelters.
