Rite Aid charity car wash raises money for Children’s Miracle Network

7/10/2008

CAMP HILL, Pa. Rite Aid chairman, president and chief executive Mary Sammons was one of more than 90 Rite Aid headquarter executives who got down and dirty one Friday afternoon last month to benefit the Penn State Children’s Hospital through Children’s Miracle Network.

This is the ninth year Rite Aid’s headquarters has hosted the fund raising event, which last year raised more than $200,000. This year’s totals were not ready for press time.

This year, members of the executive management team also compete in the first “Rite-Athalon,” which consists of three sport stations that includes a football toss, a basketball shoot and putting contest. Each Rite Aid executive competitor had been challenged to raise at least $5,000 in sponsorships for the competition.

Associates at Rite Aid stores across the country have already raised more than $4 million for Children’s Miracle Network so far this year, the company reported. From March 23 through May 10, store associates sold more than 3.4 million paper balloons and held fundraising events to benefit children’s hospitals in their hometowns. Rite Aid has raised nearly $34 million since 1994 for 117 pediatric hospitals that benefit from the Children’s Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization.
