Schnucks shutters Tennessee store
CORDOVA, Tenn. Competition is driving a Schnucks Markets store out of town, the supermarket chain said.
St. Louis-based Schnucks announced that it would close its Cordova, Tenn., store after eight years amid competition from five other stores within a 2-mi. radius, including two very large stores. The store’s 79 employees will be transferred to other stores.
“When we entered the mid-South market in 2002, we focused on providing the very best in products and services to our Cordova customers, and hoped that over time, sales would improve,” chairman and CEO Scott Schnuck said. “However, in eight years, the competitive challenges are much greater.”
