Garmin's new kids’ product enlists Spider-Man

By David Salazar - 09/24/2018
The newest children’s fitness tracker from Garmin, vívofit jr. 2, is enlisting a familiar superhero’s imagery to get kids excited about being active. The product features themed bands that evoke Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Garmin’s Spider-Verse app takes on a comic-book style to encourage healthy habits.

“The Spider-Man experience, both the band and the mobile app adventure, lets kids dive into the imaginary superhero world through physical activity,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “With the vívofit jr. 2, kids get to ‘Be the Hero’ on the playground, and are incentivized to keep moving as their activity goals unlock new worlds within the Spider-Verse app experience. We’re excited to add Spider-Man to our lineup of Disney, Avengers and Star ‘Wars’ bands and app storylines.”

The víviofit jr. 2 offers two bands etched with Spider-Man designs, is swim friendly and features a customizable color screen, and battery life of more than one year, Garmin said. The accompanying app helps promote activity with a complementary app adventure that children are meant to explore with help from their parents. It comes with a companion app for parents, who can use it to view their child’s activity, assign chores and schedule reminders that appear on the child’s device.

The vívofit jr. 2 also allows kids to participate in step challenges with friends and family, the company said. The product carries a suggested retail price of $79.99.
