Nuvothera, a Fort Worth, Texas-based biotech company, is bringing a new psoriasis-focused OTC treatment to market. The company has unveiled Prosoria, which was developed over two years, according to Nuvothera president and CEO Art Clapp, who spent 20 years at Galderma Labs.
Prosoria is a topical treatment meant to control symptoms of mild-to-moderate psoriasis. It is formulated with ingredients the company said were chosen specifically for psoriatic skin, combining clinical ingredients with such botanicals as turmeric, curcumin, bromelain, shea butter and vitamins E and C.
Prosoria offers a three-step treatment system:
- Step 1 is the conditioning and hydrating gel, which contains skin conditioners and humectants to hydrate skin and prepare it for the next steps;
- Step 2 is the Prosoria Psoriasis Treatment Gel, meant to relieve redness, scaling, flaking, itching and irritation; and
- Step 3 is the exfoliating and moisturizing cream, which sloughs off dead skin cells to leave skin feeling hydrated, smoother and moisturized.
The product also includes the bonus Prosoria Rapid Repair skin exfoliating ointment, a nighttime skin treatment meant to accelerate exfoliation and moisturize skin.
Nuvothera said Prosoria has received the seal of recognition from the National Psoriasis Foundation, which identifies products that help ease the condition’s symptoms.
“It’s been a long road to find Prosoria’s ideal mix of ingredients and application experience, but everything we’re hearing back tells us it was worth it,” Clapp said. “I’m so excited to help people with this problem, and there’s no shortage of related skin needs we can help with in the near future.”
The product currently is available on the Nuvothera website and Amazon.com.
