RILA, others to hold import safety summit in July

ARLINGTON, Va. The Retail Industry Leaders Association along with 11 other trade groups will sponsor an inter-industry summit on import safety on July 9 in Washington, the association announced Tuesday.

The summit will bring together a wide spectrum of industries and perspectives, including Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt, to share ideas and discuss how to fortify partnerships to advance the safety of imported goods.

“RILA is eager to work jointly with all interested partners to strengthen procedures around safeguarding products entering the United States,” stated Lori Denham, RILA executive vice president for government affairs and industry operations.

In addition to RILA, co-sponsors of the summit include: American National Standards Institute; Biotechnology Industry Organization; Consumer Healthcare Products Association; Food Marketing Institute; Generic Pharmaceutical Association; Grocery Manufacturers Association; Healthcare Distribution Management Association; National Fisheries Institute; National Restaurant Association; Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America; and Toy Industry Association, Inc.

“The summit will bring together individuals with vast experience in this field to share knowledge and highlight best practices that ensure delivery of the safest, highest quality goods and services to consumers,” concluded Denham
