FDA approves Ipca's generic Inderal

NEW YORK Mumbai, India-based Ipca Laboratories announced Wednesday that the Food and Drug Administration had granted it approval to manufacture generic propranolol hydrochloride tablets USP with 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg and 100 mg doses.

Ipca will manufacture the tablets at its Piparia (Silvassa) plant.

The drug is used to treat cardiovascular diseases such as angina, hypertension and heart rhythm disorders. It is marketed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals as Inderal, which had U.S. sales of $198 million in 2006.
