7/21/2008

ARLINGTON, Va. Charles Kinney has joined the Generic Pharmaceutical Association as executive vice president and Shawn Brown has been promoted to vice president of state government affairs.

Kinney previously worked for the law firm of Winston and Strawn, where he was in charge of the firm’s federal governmental relations and regulatory affairs practice group. Prior to joining the law firm, Kinney was the chief floor counsel to former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell and floor counsel and judiciary counsel for Former Senate Democratic Leader Senator Robert C. Byrd. As chief floor counsel, he was responsible for analyzing and scheduling legislation for floor action, formulating time agreements on bills, and monitoring activity on the Senate floor for the majority leader.

Brown has served as GPhA’s director of policy for the past three years. During this time, he has helped GPhA address critical state regulatory issues, including pedigree and the proliferation of state carve-out legislation.

“GPhA is working hard on Capitol Hill and in state legislatures across the country to ensure that consumers can access safe and affordable generic medicines. Charles and Shawn bring invaluable experience in our ongoing efforts to improve lives for less” said Kathleen Jaeger, GPhA president and chief executive officer.
