NACDS calls on Congress to target illegal Internet drug sellers

6/24/2008

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores urged Congress to combat illegal drug sales online, according to a statement issued Tuesday.

It also wants Congress to eliminate duplicative requirements on legitimate pharmacies that operate online.

“These rogue Internet sites, both domestic and foreign, are engaged in a pattern of illegal activity regarding the prescribing and dispensing of prescription medications,” comments issued by NACDS stated. “They are in violation of state and federal laws governing the legitimate prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances.”

NACDS made the statements in support of a hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Intellectual Property titled “Online Pharmacies and the Problem of Internet Drug Abuse.”
