Rx DrugSafe introduces medicine
lockbox with fingerprint technology

12/7/2010

NEW YORK — The leading maker of home prescription lockboxes has unveiled a high-tech security device that brings cutting-edge fingerprint recognition technology to consumers.

The Rx DrugSafe Medicine Lockbox, unveiled by Rx Safes, provides home security by only allowing access to parents, guardians or other authorized users, the company said. Each safe can recognize up to 120 users through their fingerprints, and can store up to 12 medication bottles.

A larger edition, called Rx DrugSafe Pro, is aimed at school clinics, medical offices and nursing homes, and can store 30 pill bottles. Both devices are built of 17-gauge steel and feature a twisted steel security cable for use while traveling.

“I recommend this product to anyone who feels they are living in a household with someone who has a prescription drug problem, or where there are toddlers or teenagers present,” said Reef Karim, a physician and drug addiction expert who directs The Control Center.

Rx Safes CEO Lorraine Yarde called the product “the only truly secure and unbreakable medical lockbox on the market.”
