Wegmans CEO named in top ‘Fit 50’ by Fitness magazine

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Fitness magazine named Danny Wegman, chief executive officer of Wegmans Food Markets, to its first-ever Fit 50 List, which appears in the magazine’s November/December 2008 issue on newsstands October 10, the grocer announced Friday.

The list, according to executive editor Pam O’Brien, “celebrates the top doctors, lawmakers, athletes, business owners, activists and visionaries who effected real change in women's health and fitness in 2008.”

Wegman has been designated the “Healthy Grocery Guru,” and among the reasons cited for his selection is the company’s effort to keep prices low at a time of rising food prices.  “It’s tough out there right now,” Wegman said. “If we make a little less money in the short term, that’s okay.”
