CVS Pharmacy begins offering CBD products in certain states

3/22/2019
CVS Pharmacy is bringing one of the hottest categories to shelves several states. CVS Pharmacy confirmed it would be selling CBD products in select stores such states as California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland and Tennessee.

These products include topicals such as creams, sprays, roll-ons, lotions and salves. We are not selling any CBD-containing supplements or food additives,” a CVS Pharmacy spokesperson said. “We have partnered with CBD product manufacturers that are complying with applicable laws and that meet CVS’s high standards for quality.”

Among the companies whose CBD products will be hitting shelves is Curaleaf, which announced alongside its Q4 earnings that it had inked a deal with the retailer to distribute CBD offerings in 800 stores.

Alongside its business of marijuana dispensaries, Curaleaf chairman Boris Johnson said on the earnings call, “Our strategy is to create the leading hemp company and are already rolling out products focused on different wellness areas.”

Curaleaf CEO Joseph Lusardi noted the big potential for growth in the category over the coming five years and its plan to grow its retail presence. “We are continuing to work on additional retail partnerships and will be sure to share them as they develop," he said. "We intend to have a very dominant position in this area."
