CVS Health senior vice president and chief digital officer Brian Tilzer has departed the healthcare company for Best Buy, as GeekWire has
reported. He will take over as the electronics retailer’s chief digital officer.
Tilzer joined CVS Health in 2013 from Staples where he was vice president of global e-commerce. Since then, he has spearheaded CVS Health's digital strategy, including the rollout of its ScriptSync program in 2015, the 2016 integration of CVS Pay into the CVS Pharmacy mobile app and the implementation of curbside pickup for CVS Pharmacy. During his tenure, the Woonsocket, R.I.-based company also opened its Digital Innovation Lab in Boston.
Tilzer’s hiring at Best Buy — taking over for outgoing chief digital officer Bala Subramanian — comes as the retailer indicates its interest in bringing technology to bear on consumer health-and-wellness needs. At the company’s May 24 quarterly earnings call, CEO Hubert Joly highlighted a new initiative focused on health that it is exploring.
"As we discussed at our investor day, we are exploring the health space with a focus on older Americans," Joly said. "We already have sold a variety of health-related products and technology products designed for seniors, like specially design phones and medical alert systems. We are also testing a service, called
Assured Living, to help the aging population stay healthy at home, with assistance from technology product and services. And we will continue to learn and we find our approach in this space."
