  • Southeastern Grocers names new VP pharmacy

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Southeastern Grocers on Tuesday announced a new addition. The company has tapped Gayle Shields to be its new VP pharmacy. In her new role, Shields will oversee day-to-day and strategic operations for the company’s pharmacy locations. 
     
  • Fred’s provides $4.5M in compensation to consultant

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s Pharmacy on Jan. 11 issued 490,074 shares of its Class A common stock to A.T. Kearney in consideration of consulting services. The aggregate value of the shares is approximately $4.5 million.

  • DSN poll: Walgreens' acquisition of Rite Aid to be approved by Friday

    NEW YORK  — Almost half (48%) of the more-than 200 DSN readers who weighed in on when the Walgreens Boots Alliance/Rite Aid deal would be approved are laying odds that it will happen before the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump.

  • Walgreens adds Arizona to list of states where naloxone is available without a prescription

    DEERFIELD, Ill.  — Walgreens on Tuesday announced all of its Arizona pharmacies are now authorized to dispense naloxone without a prescription in accordance with state pharmacy regulations.

    Naloxone is now more accessible and easier to obtain in more than 240 Walgreens pharmacies throughout Arizona.

  • Industry considers swift return of provider status legislation positive momentum

    ARLINGTON, Va. – Provider status is back on the Congressional menu as the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act (S. 109) was reintroduced Thursday with the bipartisan original co-sponsorship of more than one-quarter of the U.S. Senate. The return of that critical piece of legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives also is anticipated shortly.

  • Albertsons Specialty Care gets ACHC accreditation

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons announced Thursday that its accreditation status for its Albertsons Specialty Care services has been approved Accreditation Commission for Health,  making it the largest national food and drug chain with this accreditation and an in-house specialty care service for pharmacy patients. 
     
    Albertsons said the accreditation would allow the company more industry adaptability, which it says translates to increased affordability for patients and accessibility of specialty care services.
