  • Pfizer acquires Bamboo Therapeutics

    NEW YORK — In a move aimed at bolstering its position in the gene therapy field, Pfizer on Monday announced its acquisition of Bamboo Therapeutics. The Chapel Hill, N.C.-based company focuses on developing gene therapies for patients with rare diseases related to neuromuscular and central nervous system conditions. 
     
  • FDA approves new Dysport indication

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new indication for Ipsen Biopharmaceuticals’ Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA), the company announced Monday. The drug can now be used to treat lower limb spasticity in pediatric patients ages 2 years and older. 
     
  • Pa. gov signs biologics interchangeability bill

    HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf last week signed a bill that will increase patient access to interchangeable biologic medicines. Wolf’s signing of Senate Bill 514 has earned him praise from both the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and Pennsylvania Bio.

    CINCINNATI - Kroger on Wednesday announced an agreement for Axium Pharmacy Holdings to acquire the outstanding shares of Modern HC Holdings, a leading specialty pharmacy, to create a combined specialty pharmacy that will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kroger.

  • NACDS joins 37 Congress leaders in supporting TRICARE cost-saving dispensing pilot

    ARLINGTON, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores on Wednesday publicly thanked the 37 members of the U.S. House of Representatives who have sent a letter to House and Senate negotiators, urging them to advance a TRICARE pilot program as part of the FY2017 National Defense Authorization Act.

  • BioPlus now dispensing Gilead’s Epclusa

    ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy announced this week that it is now dispensing Gilead’s recently approved Epclusa (sofosbuvir 400 mg/velpatasvir 100 mg). 
     
    The drug, which combines Gilead’s Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) with an NS5A inhibitor called velpatasvir, is indicated to treat all six strains of hepatitis C. 
  • CVS Health debuts new specialty pharmacy facility

    ORLANDO, Fla. - CVS Health this week was joined by Florida Gov. Rick Scott, the Orlando Economic Development Commission VP Business Development Casey Barnes, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Florida State Reps. Mike Miller and Mike La Rosa to officially open a new specialty pharmacy facility here.
