Vital Proteins achieves B Corp certification

Vital Proteins has obtained B Corp certification.

The Chicago-based company, known best for its collagen products, joins a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact.

The beauty of becoming a B Corp is that it pushes us to stay accountable, continuously evaluate our performance and show our progress over time.”

Having undergone a review of its impact on workers, customers, communities the environment, B Corp certification found that the company scored higher than the industry average in a number of categories, including the treatment of its workers and promoting employee well-being, the brand said.

“We welcome Vital Proteins to the B Corp community and hope it will encourage other wellness brands to follow their lead,” said Lindsey Wilson, associate director of growth at B Lab U.S. and Canada. “As a B Corp, Vital Proteins is committed to taking action to address some of society's greatest challenges and has already demonstrated how it is advancing these efforts.”

Highlights from the 2021 assessment period included having more than 59% of managerial workers being women, the lowest paid hourly worker being compensated at least 50% more than the federal minimum wage and 33% more than the state minimum wage, more than 50.8% of the energy used is from low-impact renewable sources, and up to 74% of product and packaging materials are made from recyclable or biodegradable materials, the brand said.

Other changes the brand is focused on making include expanding employee monthly wellness stipends, removing plastic scoops from all applicable products in the United States, expanding parental leave and adding a healthcare travel reimbursement benefit.

Following this certification, Vital Proteins will focus on addressing environmental sustainability through new initiatives.
