AcneFree, Laura Marano partner to destigmatize acne

L’Oréal’s skincare brand, AcneFree wants to work to normalize and destigmatize acne.

In order to help do just that, the brand has partnered with actress Laura Marano — who has appeared in Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally and in the film Ladybird — to offer information, advice and expertise on social media to help those suffering from acne put their best face forward.

In addition, Marano will be starring in AcneFree campaign videos that underscore the importance of a balanced care when treating oily and acne prone skin, the company said.

“I am beyond happy to start working with AcneFree. As someone who has gone to multiple dermatologists and tried many different products, I know firsthand what it's like to have breakouts and not know how to fix them. It's overwhelming and embarrassing when my skin has an outbreak, especially when I post a photo on social media and people make negative comments about it,” Marano said. “That's why I was excited when AcneFree approached me. They're all about education to help us make the right decisions to treat — and care — for our skin, and that philosophy of empowerment really resonated with me.”

AcnreFree also will be working closely with Marano to reach Gen Z and millennials, and encouraging them to embrace their face, pimples and all, the company said.

“There are a lot of myths and misinformation out there,” Carole Diarra, brand vice president for AcneFree said. “We are excited to work with Laura to clear up confusion and become a trusted source to a younger generation, advocating for dermatologist-inspired products and reliable, honest advice about acne.”

Aside from the new partnership, the brand is launching three new products to treat and care for skin, including:

  • The AcneFree Witch Hazel Mattifying Toner, which is formulated with concentrated witch hazel, glycolic acid and aloe vera to remove excess dirt, oil and shine;

  • The AcneFree Blackhead Removing Scrub with Charcoal, which contains salicylic acid, charcoal, and jojoba to draw out impurities and soothe skin; and

  • The AcneFree Kaolin Clay Detox Mask, which features kaolin clay, charcoal, zinc and glycolic acid, and functions as both an oil absorbing cleanser and detoxing mask.

Each of the new launches currently retails for $7.99 each on Amazon and will expand to retailers by the end of 2018.
