Family Dollar to host Open Buy Day for household, HBC, GM, food and pet suppliers

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar, in an effort to meet new potential branded and private-brand suppliers, is holding two Open Buy Days at its headquarters here in October. The first segment of the Open Buy Day, for household cleaning, paper, general merchandise and health and beauty care, will be held Oct. 19. The second segment will follow this on Oct. 26 for the food, beverage and pet categories.


The first segment will be overseen by Family Dollar SVP merchandising for household products and HBA Mike Mannion, with SVP merchandising for food/pet/beverages/tobacco Mike Wilkins overseeing the Oct. 26 segment. ECRM will be organizing and managing the event, which will include upwards or 20 Family Dollar category managers.


“We are interested in reviewing your best items that are innovative, unique, and can drive incremental sales with our value-minded customers,” Mannion said. “We are seeking to keep our shelf assortments, our off shelf promotional and seasonal programs fresh, relevant, and innovative.”


The company said that its plans for growth in 2017 and 2018 include opening hundreds of new stores while remodeling its existing store base of more than 8,000 stores. Family Dollar said it is looking for POG items, in and out product opportunities, monthly and seasonal off shelf opportunities, end caps, power panels and clip strip programs for the following categories:


Household products and health/beauty needs




  • Hair care, hair accessories, beauty care, skin care, bath, cosmetics, fragrance;


  • Multi-cultural hair care, multi-cultural beauty care;


  • Oral care, shave, deodorant;


  • Pain relief, cough & cold remedy, allergy, lip care, digestive health, first aid;


  • Vitamin/nutrition;


  • Laundry, household cleaners, paper towels;


  • Trash bags, semi-durable and disposable food storage, plates, cups, napkins; and


  • Hardware, automotive supplies.




food/beverage and pet:




  • Dry grocery, salty snacks, cookies/crackers;


  • Beverages;


  • Candy;


  • Dairy, frozen foods, packaged deli; and


  • Pet food, treats and accessories.
