  • More than 6,000 attend APhA annual meeting

    SAN FRANCISCO — The American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting and Exposition drew more than 6,100 pharmacists and student pharmacists form March 24-27 in San Francisco.

    This year’s theme, “Making an Impact in Patient Care,” served as a mandate for attendees to step up efforts in patient care and demonstrate why pharmacists should have a much larger role in any new federal health care policy.

  • Are you listening? Stage set for OTC hearing aids

    WASHINGTON — Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., on Tuesday reintroduced legislation to make hearing aids for those with mild to moderate hearing loss available over the counter. The move already has the blessing of the Food and Drug Administration. The agency in December announced its commitment to OTC hearing aids with the promise of new, innovative and lower-cost products to millions of consumers.

  • Northeast Ohio Medical University pioneers Transitions in Care with Ritzman Pharmacy

    ROOTSTOWN, OHIO – The College of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University on Friday launched the College’s first Transitions in Care program through its affiliate, Pharmacy Innovations, and in partnership with Ritzman Pharmacy at NEOMED and Summa Rehab Hospital.

  • President Trump nominates health policy veteran to FDA post

    WASHINGTON — President Trump on Friday announced his intent to nominate former FDA deputy commissioner Scott Gottlieb to be the new commissioner of Food and Drugs at the Department of Health and Human Services.

    The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.

  • SoFi takes a look at best-value pharmacy schools

    SAN FRANCISCO — Lender and student loan refinancing company SoFi this week conducted a rundown of which pharmacy schools provide students the best bang for their buck by comparing which schools have the highest average salaries relative to their student debt, on average. It also looked at the pharmacy schools’ graduates have the highest average salaries and schools whose graduates have the highest amount of debt relative to their income. 
     
  • Benzer launches pharmacy residency program

    TAMPA, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy will be introducing a pharmacy residency program, the company announced Wednesday. The post-grad training program is aimed at providing pharmacy students with training that focuses on clinical care. 
     
    “Benzer Pharmacy is excited to initiate the pharmacy residency program which will provide practitioners with a competitive edge over their peers,” the company’s chief clinical officer, Lindsay Wall,  said.

  • Albertsons, Cardinal execs among those named to ACPE leadership posts

    CHICAGO — Anthony Provenzano, VP of pharmacy compliance and government affairs for Albertsons, and Michael A. Moné, VP associate general counsel-regulatory for Cardinal Health, are among a group of executives elected to Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education leadership posts. Elections were held during the ACPE board of directors meeting, which took place last month.
