Budweiser to unveil Budweiser Black Crown

1/8/2013

ST. LOUIS — Budweiser will introduce the latest addition to its line of beers later this month, the company said Tuesday.

The brewing company announced plans to unveil Budweiser Black Crown on Jan. 21, based on 12 recipes, six beers brewed for national sampling and 25,000 opinions from the company's "Project 12" competition. The company plans to broadcast the first 30-second television advertisement during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3.

The recipe was created by Budweiser brewmaster Bryan Sullivan of Los Angeles, and the result is an amber lager that blends two-row caramel malt and four types of domestic hops, with an alcohol content of 6% ABV.

"People respond really well to Budweiser Black Crown, which has a little more body and color and a touch more hop character than our flagship Budweiser lager," Sullivan said. "As brewmasters, we spend most of our time in the brewhouse. Project 12 gave us a chance to hear firsthand from the people we brew our beers for."
