MillerCoors to intro gluten-free lager

1/14/2015

CHICAGO — Beer brand MillerCoors will leap onto the gluten-free bandwagon next month, according to a report from Ad Age. The brewer confirmed that the gluten-free beverage — Coors Peak Copper Lager — will be sold in both Seattle and Portland.

Barley will be replaced with brown rice, malted brown rice and protein from pea to produce the beer, a spokesman told Ad Age. The product has to be produced separetely from beers containing gluten in order to achieve a gluten-free certification. Coors Peak was described as having a "malty, slight caramel profile offset by subtly spicy hops and the finish is slightly bitter, crisp and perfectly balanced."

The brewer also stated that because of production limitations, there aren't plans to roll out the product beyond Seattle and Portland.
