  • Mega Brands introduces new preschool toys

    NEW YORK — Mega Brands is building up its Mega Bloks brand with a new lineup of preschool toys.

    This year's Mega Bloks preschool construction toy launch includes:

    • The 3-in-1 Build 'n Go walker, which is designed to grow with a child as he or she progresses from crawling to walking. It does triple duty as a wagon, walker and building platform;

    • The Tub Town collection, which is a series of big storage containers filled with fun building blocks featuring such classic play themes as farm, princess and dragons; and

  • Crayola slated to launch new creative activities this summer

    EASTON, Pa. — Crayola is looking to dazzle kids and parents alike with a new lineup of creative activities.

    The new products, available this August, include:

    • Glow Explosion sand art sculptures, for children ages 6 years and older, with a suggested retail price of $9.99;

    • Washable glow chalk, for children ages 6 years and older, with an SRP of $9.99;

    • Washable colored bubble launcher, for children ages 4 years and older, with an SRP of $14.99;

  • Keeping kids moving with GeoPalz

    NEW YORK — A line of kid-friendly pedometers is expanding to include two new water-resistant products.

    Designed to motivate physical activity among children, GeoPalz are pedometers that can measure speed and distance of activity and store up to 21 days of data. Each pedometer flips open to reveal how much activity is exerted via the digital tracking display. The mode can be changed to toggle between displaying the steps or the time of day. Each GeoPalz product features kid-friendly designs.

  • Study: Energy drink use by young people could lead to health problems

    MIAMI — New research published in the Feb. 14 online edition of Pediatrics found that prolonged use of energy drinks by young people can lead to potentially adverse health outcomes.

    Researchers at the University of Miami's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine noted that in the United States, energy drinks were consumed by 30% to 50% of adolescents and young adults, according to self-report surveys. Additionally, adolescent caffeine intake averaged 60 mg/day to 70 mg/day and ranged up to 800 mg/day, the researchers said.

  • Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Mattel develop 'Green Lantern' toy line

    BURBANK, Calif. — Gearing up for the summer release of superhero flick "Green Lantern," Warner Bros. Consumer Products is teaming up with licensee Mattel to help fans fight evil through a new branded toy line.

    WBCP said Mattel will bring "Green Lantern" to life by producing the lineup, which includes:

    • The Green Lantern Ring Blast jet figure and vehicle;

    • The Green Lantern Battle Shifters figures;

    • The Green Lantern Movie Masters figures; and

  • 'Casino Jack' arrives on Blu-ray, DVD this spring

    LOS ANGELES — The story of one of Washington, D.C.'s most lucrative lobbyists caught in a whirlwind of controversy is making its Blu-ray and DVD debut April 5.

    "Casino Jack," starring Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as Jack Abramoff, is a cautionary tale about Capitol Hill intrigue. Abramoff is situated as a power player whose scheming ways land him in a web of greed and murder that turns into a worldwide scandal.

  • Mr. Clean with Febreze rolls out New Zealand Springs, Hawaiian Aloha scents

    CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has introduced two new products that unite the cleaning power of Mr. Clean and the fresh scent of Febreze.

    New Zealand Springs and Hawaiian Aloha scents have joined the Mr. Clean with Febreze lineup. Available in pourable liquids and sprays, each product is designed to freshen and clean virtually all hard surface areas of the home, P&G said.

  • Spring is in the air with new Glade collection

    RACINE, Wis. — Consumers with spring fever will be able to freshen their homes with two limited-edition home fragrances from Glade.

    Bring on the Blossoms and Sparkle of Spring scents are the newest members of the Glade family. Bring on the Blossoms unites fruity and floral with a medley of jasmine, rose, peony and sandalwood; while the Sparkle of Spring scent features fresh and citrusy scents with zesty lime, ginger and vanilla notes, according to the company.
