  • CVS Caremark acquires Universal American

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark is more than doubling the size of its Medicare Part D program by acquiring the Medicare Part D business of Universal American for roughly $1.25 billion.

    Universal American’s Part D business currently serves about 1.9 million Medicare PDP members, while CVS Caremark serves roughly 1.2 million Medicare PDP members. This reflects current levels of membership and does not include 2011 auto assignment or the results of the annual enrollment period, which ended Dec. 31, 2010.

  • 2010 CVS Caremark Charity Classic boosts nonprofits

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The work of 62 nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts received a boost with support from funds generated by the 2010 CVS Caremark Charity Classic.

    CVS Caremark's chairman and CEO, Tom Ryan, along with PGA Tour Professionals and CVS Caremark Charity Classic co-hosts Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon, presented more than $1.3 million to area charities at the company's customer support center headquarters.

  • CVS Caremark Charitable Trust awards $3.3 million in grants

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust announced on Tuesday that $3.3 million in grants has been awarded to 72 nonprofit organizations across the country.

    About half of these grants align with CVS Caremark All Kids Can, a program focused on making life easier for children with disabilities and for their families. The other half of the grants will provide support for medical services for the underinsured and uninsured.

    PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — CVS/pharmacy, the New York State Fraternal Order of Police and dozens of volunteers came together on Dec. 19 at Easter Seals New York's child development center, Project Discovery, to distribute toys, food and coats to families in need.

  • MinuteClinic to promote Ask Me 3 health literacy program

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark's MinuteClinic has entered into an agreement with the National Patient Safety Foundation to become the nation's first retail clinic provider to implement the Ask Me 3 health literacy program.

    MinuteClinic will launch the program in early 2011 in its approximately 500 medical clinics located inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in 26 states and the District of Columbia.

  • MinuteClinic forms clinical collaboration with St. Rose Dominican Hospitals

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has entered a clinical collaboration in southern Nevada with St. Rose Dominican Hospitals — members of the Catholic Healthcare West system — to enhance healthcare services provided in communities throughout the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

    MinuteClinic, which is owned by CVS Caremark, operates six clinics inside CVS locations throughout southern Nevada.

  • Court blocks Mullany from joining CVS Caremark

    WILMINGTON, Del. — A Delaware judge granted Walmart's request for a preliminary injunction on Wednesday and has blocked — for now — CVS Caremark from hiring former Walmart executive Hank Mullany as president of CVS/pharmacy, according to published reports.

    Vice chancellor J. Travis Laster scheduled a trial for early March.

  • Former CVS executive joins Market Performance Group

    NEW YORK — Former CVS/pharmacy executive Steve Ortleb has joined Market Performance Group, a consulting and sales management services company, as a director on the MPG sales and retail services team and a retail adviser for the MPG Strategy Consulting group.
