  • Report: FTC preparing to block WBA's acquisition of Rite Aid

    The Federal Trade Commission is preparing "advice" to block the deal to merge Walgreens Boots Alliance and Rite Aid, according to a Investor's Business Daily report. The news was first reported by Bloomberg. "Shares of Rite Aid sank 14% to 3.03 in afternoon trading on the stock market [and] Walgreens dipped 0.3%. Rival CVS Health (CVS) edged up 0.5%," Investor's Business Daily reported. In addition, shares of Fred's Pharmacy, which has agreed to acquire as many as 1,200 divested Rite Aid locations as part of the deal, dropped 2.5% Friday.

  • CVS rolls out time-lock safes for controlled substances in Ohio

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy has rolled out a new strategy to prevent misuse and abuse of opioids and deter theft. The retailer said that it has begun using time-delay safes for controlled substances in 170 of its locations in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, as well as central and northern Ohio and northern Kentucky.

  • CVS acquires Doc’s Drugs’ 14 stores

    WOONSOCKETT, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy is acquiring all 14 Illinois locations of Braidwood, Ill.-based Doc’s Drugs, the two companies announced recently. CVS Pharmacy said it plans to convert and rename the pharmacies by mid-July, and that it expects to retain as many of the Doc’s Drugs employees at the locations as possible.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Pharmacy has opened its first standalone store in the Centennial State. CVS Pharmacy executives celebrated the grand opening of the new store in Parker, Colo. — the first of three slated to open in the greater Denver market this year — with state Sen. Jim Smallwood and state Rep. Kim Ransom.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — On the heels of its bringing nonprescription naloxone to patients in Arizona, CVS Health highlighted the reach and scale of the ongoing opioid crisis, as well as its efforts to help combat the roughly 91 deaths due to opioids that happen every days, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • CVS Health Baseball Camp brings vets to Fenway Park

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVs Health and the Boston Red Sox helped veterans celebrate Memorial Day a little early this year. The CVS Health Baseball Camp marked its seventh year Thursday, bringing 20 veterans from Massachusetts and Rhode Island to Fenway Park in Boston to work with Red Sox hitting coaches one-on-one.

    Veterans got batting tips from Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez, and were treated to lunch in the stadium, as well as a VIP tour and tickets to the evening’s game against the Texas Rangers courtesy of CVS Health.

  • CVS Health officially introduces prescription-free naloxone in Arizona

    PHOENIX — CVS Health welcomed Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and State Rep. Heather Carter on Tuesday to officially introduce access to the opioid overdose-reversal medicine naloxone by making it available without a prescription at all CVS Pharmacy locations in Arizona. Pharmacists in Arizona will use prescriptive authority to dispense the life-saving medication to patients without the need for a physician visit to obtain an individual prescription.
