DiGiorno, Stouffer’s join the plant-based trend

Nestlé is putting plant-based innovations from two of its brands on shelves.

DiGiorno and Stouffer’s are unveiling offers made with Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds, a plant-based ground beef alternative.

"There's no denying the current modern food movement is revolutionizing the plant-based space," John Carmichael, president of the foods division at Nestlé, said. "By adding Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds to Stouffer’s and DiGiorno offerings, we're able to offer our customers the chance to incorporate plant-based meals into their diets while still enjoying the same convenience and delicious flavor of brands they know and trust."

Consumers will now be able to choose from the DiGiorno Rising Crust Meatless Supreme with Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds and Stouffer’s Meatless Lasagna with Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds, which are similar to the original offerings, the company said.

Sweet Earth’s Awesome Grounds are made with textured yellow pea protein, wheat gluten, canola oil, and coconut oil among other ingredients.

Both offerings will hit retail shelves beginning spring 2020.
