Dollar General will open its new locations in Washington and Wyoming in 2020, which will expand its presence to 46 states within the nation, the company said.

Dollar General announced that its Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $2.8 million in youth literacy grants to help students and educators.

Dollar General reported a sales increase of 8.4% during its second-quarter performance and also appointed Jeffery C. Owen as COO.

Dollar General opened its 16th distribution center in Longview, Texas, which is expected to employ more than 400 people, the company said.

Dollar General is leveraging a mix of targeted advertising, data science and predictive modeling technologies to identify top candidates for external leadership positions.

Dollar General will first offer access to FedEx drop-off and pickup services at 1,500 stores in late summer and reach a total of 8,000 stores by the end of 2020.

Dollar General's net sales increased 8% to $6.6 billion in the first quarter of 2019, up 8% from $6.1 billion in the first quarter of 2018.

The line joins Dollar General’s first private-label beauty line called Studio Selection, which launched last year in the hair and skin categories.
