  • Salix granted three patents for Xifaxan

    RALEIGH, N.C. — The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Salix Pharmaceuticals three patents related to a drug used for travelers’ diarrhea.

    Salix announced Wednesday that it had secured patents for the drug Xifaxan (rifaximin) covering its methods of treating travelers’ diarrhea, as well as two related to the drug’s chemical composition.

    The patents are set to expire between 2024 and 2029.

    NEW YORK — Bainbridge & Knight announced the expansion of its Lichi Super Fruit Diet brand with a probiotic product.

    New Lichi LactoSpore is a gluten- and dairy-free probiotic designed to aid in healthy digestion without uncomfortable bloating. It also helps the immune system fight off infections, the company said, and provides Bacillus coagulans, necessary bacteria.

    Lichi LactoSpore probiotic will be available at leading drug stores and supermarkets nationwide.

    NEW YORK — Laura Geller, whose beauty products are sold at Ulta and Macy's Impulse locations, has partnered with Race to Erase MS and the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis to help raise awareness and funds for those afflicted with MS by creating a limited-edition Bring on the Bronze beauty kit.

    The Bring on the Bronze kit is part of the "Orange Campaign" that the Nancy Davis Foundation is spearheading to raise awareness and funds for those with MS.

    SEATTLE — Consumers now can purchase Butter London products, including nail lacquers, nail treatments and pedicure essentials, in all 390 Ulta stores nationwide, the manufacturer has announced.

    Founded in 2005, Butter London's lacquers are inspired by runway trends, Great Britain and rock and roll. The products are formulated without the use of such harmful ingredients as formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate and parabens.

  • Forest purchases rights to azimilide

    NEW YORK — Drug maker Forest Labs has acquired worldwide rights to a drug developed by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals for treating arrhythmia.

    Forest said Tuesday that it had purchased the rights to azimilide from Blue Ash Therapeutics and had been assigned a license agreement between Blue Ash and Warner Chilcott. Forest will assume responsibility for all future development and commercialization, including costs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
