  • PhRMA: Drug companies have 444 medicines under development for neurological disorders

    WASHINGTON — Nearly 450 drugs are under development for treating neurological disorders, according to a report by a drug industry trade group.

    The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America said in a report released Wednesday that drug makers had 444 drugs in clinical development or awaiting Food and Drug Administration approval for a range of diseases, ranging from mild to serious.

  • Calif.-based online start-up offers acne consultations, e-prescriptions

    MONTEREY, Calif. — A new website for young people with acne allows them to receive online dermatology consultations and receive prescriptions.

    YoDerm charges $59 for a three-step plan. Users upload photos of their affected areas and answer several medical questions, a process that typically takes less than 10 minutes. Within 48 hours, a dermatologist examines the photos and information and creates a personalized treatment plan. After that, a treatment plan is delivered and, if included, a prescription is sent electronically to the user's preferred local pharmacy.

    MILWAUKEE — Carma Laboratories on Tuesday launched Carmex Moisture Plus limited-edition designs, a slim-stick lip balm line that presents a fashion-forward exterior. The line features limited-edition designs and named personalities to match, including Chic in houndstooth, Fab in a groovy retro look, Adventurous in a leopard print and Whimsical in an art deco design. 

    The brand is asking consumers, “Which personality are you?”
