HRG's 5 products to watch

8/20/2018
Hamacher Resource Group is highlighting five of the products from June it thinks retailers should keep their eyes on in the coming month. During the month of July, Waukesha, Wis.-based HRG said that its team reviewed 248 new products, selecting the top from a crop of OTC, wellness and beauty products.

Broken down by category, 33% of the products (81) were OTC, 51% (126 products) were wellness offerings and 41 products, roughly 16% of the products, were from the beauty category.

Of the five standouts selected by the products team, all but one are either OTC or wellness products, with one beauty product in the mix.

Two of the products target cold and allergy symptoms, one is aimed at patients with diabetes and the other is a children’s multivitamin, and the final product is in the skin care segment.

The following five products are those HRG recommends category observers pay attention to:

  1. Luden’s Dual Relief Cough Drops, 25 count, wild cherry flavor
Prestige Brands’ cough drop brand Luden’s has been a staple of the cough-cold aisle, using pectin to soothe sore throats. The brand’s dual relief drops stood out to HRG because the product adds 2.5 mg of menthol to the mix as a cough suppressant.

  2. Robitussin Honey Cough + Chest Congestion DM Max, 4 oz.
Robitussin is combining its cough and chest congestion offering — which features
maximum-strength dextromethorphan HBr to suppress coughs, as well as expectorant guaifenesin — with real honey. The Pfizer brand’s 4-oz. offering of the product stood out to HRG because it was “the only OTC product to combine trusted medicine with real honey,” HRG said.

  3. Aspercreme Foot Cream with Lidocaine, 4 oz.
Aimed at soothing achey feet with a formulation that is safe for diabetic skin, Sanofi’s Aspercreme Foot Cream with Lidocaine is designed to capitalize on the popularity of lidocaine as an external analgesic. Formulated to soothe aggravated nerves, it contains seven moisturizers for dry skin and is odor free.

  4. Zarbee’s Naturals’ Complete Toddler Multivitamin Gummy, 110 count, fruit flavor
This VMS offering from Zarbee’s Naturals contains 13 vitamins, including vitamins A, C, D3 and a B complex. The company said the gummy vitamin for children ages 2-to-4 years old also contains naturally sourced flavors and color, as well as real honey. HRG said it stood out as the company’s first launch of toddler vitamins.

  5. ChapStick Total Hydration Vitamin Enriched Lip Oil, .23 oz., Sweet Nectar
A new addition to the Pfizer Consumer Healthcare brand’s Total Hydration lineup, the ChapStick Total Hydration lip oil is meant to replenish lip moisture with nutrients and oils. It also is formulated with vitamins C and E, as well as omegas-3-6-9.
