Ruffles, NBA All-Star Anthony Davis partner on custom potato chip

Gisselle

Ruffles has been cooking up something new with NBA All-Star Anthony Davis.

Davis’ endorsement deal, which is going by The Chip Deal, was inspired by fans who are passionate about their snacks and style on and off the court, the company said.

Together the two have partnered on creating a custom potato chip flavor — lime and jalapeño.

“The Chip Deal is transcending the notion of traditional athlete endorsement deals: pairing Anthony Davis' commitment to impact beyond the court and bringing fans something unprecedented from a potato chip brand,” Sadira Furlow, the vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay North America, said. “With the launch of Ruffles Lime and Jalapeño, we translated Davis' energy and originality into an incredible potato chip flavor that is undoubtedly one of the most innovative flavors in Ruffles history.”

Featuring lime zest and a kick of jalapeño, the chip comes packaged in three limited-edition designs created in collaboration with Davis, which were inspired by his personality and spirit of individuality, the company said.

“From behind the scenes of sneaker creation to the art of potato chip flavors to the design process of chip packaging, it's a real win to have a partner who's so committed to creating new unexpected experiences for fans,” said Davis. “I can't wait for everyone to get a taste — literally — of the latest chapter of my Chip Deal with Ruffles, my lime and jalapeño signature flavor.”

Ruffles’ lime and jalapeño chips will hit shelves in select retailers on Jan. 20 and expand nationwide on Feb. 3, and come in 8.5-oz. bags that retail for $4.29 and 2.5-oz. bags for $1.89.
