    NEW YORK — Multicultural beauty brand IMAN Cosmetics is the official cosmetics partner for “About Last Night” and will launch a new custom-created collection inspired by the film’s theme and characters.

    The Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick Collection features five new shades — Hot, Scandalous, Taboo, Flirtatious, and Kinky Pink — that are available at Walgreens and Wal-Mart.

  • Walgreens donates 3 million vaccines in partnership with the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Wednesday announced it is donating the value of 3 million vaccines for children in developing countries upon successful completion of its immunizations campaign developed in partnership with the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.

    Walgreens pledged to donate the value of one vaccine through Shot@Life for each immunization the company administered from Sept. 4 through Oct. 14, with a goal to reach three million vaccines to benefit children in developing countries by protecting them against such diseases as measles and polio.

  • MediSafe updates medication reminder app to allow automatic refills

    HAIFA, Israel — Users of a medication-management app can now refill their prescriptions using an enhancement to it.

    MediSafe announced Monday an updated version of its Medication Refill Reminder app allowing users to enter contact information for their preferred pharmacies and, once alerted that a medication refill is needed, to click on the pharmacy logo that directs them to the mobile refill page of the specified pharmacy. The app currently supports refills for Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid and Health Mart.

  • Walgreens declares regular quarterly dividend of 31.5 cents per share, a 14.5% increase

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — The board of directors of Walgreens on Thursday declared a regular quarterly dividend of 31.5 cents per share, a 14.5% increase over the year-ago dividend. 

    The dividend is payable March 12, 2014, to shareholders of record on Feb. 18, 2014.

    Walgreens has paid a dividend in 325 straight quarters (more than 81 years) and has raised its dividend for 38 consecutive years. Over the last five years, Walgreens annual dividend rate has increased from 45 cents per share to $1.26 per share, resulting in a compound annual growth rate of nearly 23%.

  • APhA announces candidates for 2015-2016 president-elect; group awards grants for pharmacy-based projects to improve care

    WASHINGTON — A pharmacy professor and compounding pharmacy owner are candidates for president-elect of the American Pharmacists Association for 2015-2016, the group said.

    The APhA said the candidates for the position are Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy professor and community pharmacy residency program director Jean-Venable Goode and Newport Beach, Calif.-based Westcliff Compounding Pharmacy owner Michael Pavlovich. Members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Fla., in March.

  • Creating generic powerhouses

    A deal announced last month between CVS Caremark and Cardinal Health created a joint venture that the companies said would be the largest generic drug sourcing entity in the United States.

    Each company will have a 50% stake in the joint venture, contributing its respective sourcing and supply chain expertise. The deal also included an extension of Cardinal Health’s existing pharmaceutical distribution agreement with CVS Caremark through June 2019.
