  • Research: Patients using Walgreens' HIV-specialized pharmacies more adherent to their medications

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens recently presented research from two retrospective cohort studies exploring HIV and comorbid medication adherence at HIV-specialized pharmacies and the implications for HIV patients with serious mental illness.   • Walgreens' Wade Miquelon named 2014 race chair for Susan G. Komen Chicagoland Race for the Cure

    CHICAGO — The Chicagoland Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen (Komen Chicago) on Tuesday announced that Walgreens CFO and president international Wade Miquelon will serve as race chair for its annual Susan G. Komen Chicagoland Race for the Cure. The event will take place on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014, in Chicago's Grant Park.

  • Walgreens finalizes Kerr Drug deal

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Friday announced that it has completed its acquisition of certain assets of Kerr Drug’s retail drug stores and specialty pharmacy business. In fiscal year 2012, Kerr Drug’s retail drugstores and specialty pharmacy business recorded total sales of $381 million.

    Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.  

    As previously announced in September, the acquisition is an asset transaction and includes Kerr Drug’s retail drug stores, specialty pharmacy business and a distribution center.

When there is no care, brands simply do not exist,” she said.

  • Walgreens generates October sales of $6.4 billion with a 5.8% same-store sales lift

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens on Tuesday posted October sales of $6.4 billion, an increase of 6.1%. Sales in comparable stores increased by 5.8% in October. 

    Prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased by 5.7% in October and increased 6.2% on a calendar day-shift adjusted basis. This year’s October had one additional Thursday and one fewer Monday compared with October 2012. These calendar shifts negatively impacted prescriptions filled at comparable stores by 50 basis points.

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens and Alliance Boots on Tuesday announced that Richard Ashworth, Walgreens corporate operations VP for the Western United States, has been appointed as director of health care, health and beauty U.K. and Republic of Ireland at Alliance Boots. He will report to Simon Roberts, managing director, health and beauty U.K. and ROI.
