To regain their dominance of the $16 billion U.S. beauty market, chains such as Walgreens, Target, CVS and Walmart are burnishing their images. Among the moves they are taking are:

  • Veru’s new female condom measures up

  • Theranos voided one in every 10 test results conducted on behalf of Walgreens

DEERFIELD, Ill. —  One day before Walgreens Boots Alliance severed its relationship with the blood-testing laboratory Theranos in June 2016, Theranos acknowledged to Walgreens executives that more than 10% of the test reports —  totaling 31,000 test reports altogether —  that were provided to Walgreens customers who used Theranos' services had to be voided.

  • Walgreens: HIV-specialized pharmacies improve adherence, save money

ATLANTA - Patients using HIV-specialized pharmacies were more likely to use regimens on guideline with HHS recommendations than those not using HIV-specialized pharmacies (81.6% as compared to 76.9%), according to a Walgreens study presented this week before the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care 2016 conference here.

  • Walgreens Boots Alliance sues Theranos for $140 million

Walgreens Boots Alliance has filed a suit against Theranos seeking $140 million in damages. Walgreens filed the suit, Walgreen Co. v. Theranos Inc., U.S. District Court, District of Delaware, No. 16-01040 under seal, so the retailer did not issue a statement.

However, the suit is likely regarding its June 12 announcement that Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens was terminating its relationship and closing operations at all 40 Theranos Wellness Centers at its stores.
