  • Walmart kicks off holiday toy layaway program

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced its Top 20 Toy List for the upcoming holidays and said the items now are available at Walmart stores in time for the retailer's layaway program, which launches this Sunday.

    In a social media tie-in, customers who "like" their local Walmart store's Facebook page can begin using the service immediately.

  • Sergeant's Pet Care gets Perrigo's attention

    ALLEGAN, Mich. — An expanded offering of private-label pet care products will come soon to retailers' shelves, following the acquisition of Sergeant's Pet Care Products by Perrigo, the leading global provider of store-brand health and personal care items.

    Perrigo said it signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Sergeant's, a privately held Omaha-based company, for $285 million in an all cash deal that enables Perrigo to enter the $8 billion pet care market.

    RACINE, Wis. — SC Johnson is combining two of its brands for a new line of cleaning products.

    Scrubbing Bubbles and Fantastik have come together to create the following items:

    • Scrubbing Bubbles total kitchen foaming all-purpose cleaner with Fantastik: A light foam, it is specially formulated for your kitchen to cut through grease and grime, leaving a brilliant shine and fresh citrus scent;

  • Anchor Bay Entertainment launches 'Chilly Christmas' on DVD

    BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Anchor Bay Entertainment is slated to debut a new holiday film on DVD.

    "Chilly Christmas," starring C. Thomas Howell, Brooke Langton and Tom Arnold, is a holiday adventure that follows the story of a boy named Bobby, his detective father and their rambunctious dog Chilly, who are preparing to move from Sunshine Beach, Calif., to New York. As they prepare for their big move, a dog-napper and his crew come to town, and it is up to Bobby, his father and Chilly to stop them.

  • 'Crooked Arrows' comes home on Blu-ray, DVD

    LOS ANGELES — 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing a new sports film to Blu-ray and DVD.

    "Crooked Arrows" stars Brandon Routh, Gil Birmingham and Crystal Allen. The film centers on Coach Joe Logan (Routh), who reluctantly leads a Native American high school team on their unlikely journey to the state lacrosse championship game against their prep school rivals. Along the way, Joe and the team rediscover their connection to the spiritual traditions of the ancient sport of lacrosse.

  • Reports: Peapod to open grocery pickup sites in Chicago suburbs

    NEW YORK — Online grocery retailer Peapod will set up three sites in Chicago where people can pick up groceries they've ordered, according to published reports.

    The Chicago Tribune reported Monday that Ahold-owned Peapod would open three locations in the Chicago suburbs of Palatine, Ill., Schaumburg, Ill., and Deerfield, Ill.

    The reports follow closely an Aug. 28 announcement by Peapod that it would allow customers in the Boston area to pick up groceries at a local Stop & Shop store, another banner owned by Ahold.

  • Shopko expands private-label product range

    GREEN BAY, Wis. — Mass merchandise chain Shopko has added 70 new items to its line of private-label products, the company said Monday.
