  • Nutrition label confusion reaches far and wide

    NEW YORK — Food manufacturers, take note: Consumers worldwide don't necessarily understand nutritional labels on packaging, according to a new Nielsen survey.

  • Local flavor: Meijer's Michigan stores to feature food products made in the state

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer's stores in Michigan will "prominently" feature 49 products made in the state as part of a program to promote local businesses, the mass merchandise retailer said.

    The chain is partnering with the Michigan State University Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources to launch the "Made in Michigan" initiative, whereby 33 stores will feature 49 such grocery items as marinara sauce, blueberry butter, gluten-free baking mixes and gourmet seasonings in specially designated areas of the store starting on Sunday.

  • EnLiven expands probiotic yogurt offering

    CLEVELAND — A line of probiotic yogurt exclusively sold at Walmart has added new items to its lineup.

    Ganenden said its EnLiven yogurt brand now includes new single-serve 6-oz. yogurts with probiotics in five varieties, including plain, blueberry, peach, strawberry and vanilla.

    Suggested retail price is 78 cents per cup.

  • YoCrunch goes Greek

    CHICAGO — YoCrunch has expanded its portfolio with new Greek Parfait cups of yogurt that can serve as an on-the-go breakfast or snack.

    New YoCrunch Greek Parfaits combined toasted almonds with such flavors as blueberry and acai, rapsberry and acai, and pomegranate. Each flavor contains 190 calories, including the toppings, in a 6-oz. serving.

  • Molson Coors appoints chief people, legal officer

    DENVER — Molson Coors has combined two senior positions on its executive leadership team into one.

    The company said its chief legal officer Samuel Walker now will serve as chief people and legal officer. Molsons Coors' current chief people officer, Ralph Hargrow, is stepping down from his role to pursue other career opportunities.

    Walker has served as VP and global chief legal officer since the merger of Molson and Coors in 2005. Previously, he was U.S. and worldwide chief legal officer and group VP at Coors Brewing Co. since 2002.

  • Annie's makes organic pizza for whole family

    BERKELEY, Calif. — Annie's has introduced a line of family-sized, certified organic frozen pizza.

    Annie's said its line features organic rising crust, 8 g of whole grain in every serving and includes certified organic vegetables and meats. The line includes uncured pepperoni, four cheese, spinach and mushroom, and supreme flavors.

    All four, 11.5-in. inch family-sized varieties now are available in the frozen aisle at Whole Foods Markets nationwide for a suggest retail price of $9.99.

  • Bossa Nova introduces reduced-calorie fruit beverages

    BLUE ASH, Ohio — Bossa Nova has introduced new organic superfruit beverages.

    The new juices touts 90 calories per 10-oz. bottle, the company said. The reduced-calorie juices will be available in organic acai original, organic acai blueberry, organic acai pomegranate and all-natural acerola red peach.
