Head & Shoulders debuts H&S Bare at Walmart

The new formula is available in Soothing Hydration and Pure Clean.

Head & Shoulders is unveiling H&S Bare. The company describes the product as “a first of its kind new anti-dandruff shampoo with only nine ingredients that consumers can trust to get the job done with no trade-offs. Two years and over 100 iterations went into the formula to ensure each ingredient plays a specific and purposeful role to achieving a flake free scalp.”

In a recent study from Head & Shoulders, it was found scalp health sufferers are divided on anti-dandruff shampoos, with more than half that mistakenly believe anti-dandruff shampoos damage their scalp and that DIY home treatments are better for their scalp than anti-dandruff shampoos—90% of the scalp health sufferers surveyed have tried at least one DIY treatment. Yet, 54% of people who tried DIY treatments only saw benefits last up to only two days.

These home remedies don’t treat the true cause of dandruff, and their symptoms return. Additionally, it can be costly, with 1 in 5 spending more than $300 in the last year, the company said.

Head & Shoulders Bare formula is available in Soothing Hydration and Pure Clean and is free from sulfates, silicones and dyes, with a recyclable bottle that contains 45% less plastic. In addition, it’s dermatologically tested and clinically proven, the company said.

The nine-ingredient Bare formula contains:

Zinc Pyrithione, a clinically-proven dandruff fighting active
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, for cleaning the scalp and hair
Lauramidopropyl Betaine, for creating lather
Cellulosic Polyquaternium, to leave hair feeling moisturized
Acrylate, thickens the formula for ease of use
Citric Acid, balances the pH to be gentle on scalp and hair
Fragrance, provides a pleasant smell and in-use experience
Sodium Benzoate, for preserving the formula’s freshness
Water, for holding the formula together
