  • NEHI calls for team-based approach to improve drug adherence

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Poor medication adherence is one of the nation’s “most persistent” healthcare problems, costing the U.S. health system as much as $290 billion a year, or 13% of total health expenditures, according to the New England Healthcare Institute. In response, the nonprofit organization is calling for an urgent national campaign to improve adherence through a team-based, collaborative approach to long-term patient therapy.

    NEW YORK Eboost on Thursday launched its super berry liquid shot, formulated with a host of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, including vitamins C, D, B6 and B12, folic acid, niacin, selenium, chromium, zinc and green tea.     CLEVELAND Jokers will be sure to embrace the latest laugh-out-loud card line from American Greetings.

    The greeting card company announced its first-ever whoopee-cushion greeting card line, called "It's a Gas!" Each card in the collection is an actual whoopee cushion that can be signed and sent in an accompanying envelope.

     

  • Egrifta receives regulatory approval

    SILVER SPRING, Md. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug for treating excess fat development in patients with HIV, the agency said Thursday.

     

    The FDA approved Egrifta (tesamorelin) for treating HIV patients with lipodystrophy, a condition in which excess fat develops in different areas of the body, such as the abdominal organs. The condition is often a side effect of the retroviral drugs used to treat the disease.

    LOS ANGELES The first season of TV Land's "hot" sitcom, starring Betty White, will be available as a two-disc DVD set on Jan. 11.

    NEW YORK Supermodel Carol Alt is launching her new skin care line, dubbed Raw Essentials, with in-store appearances at Duane Reade stores on Nov. 17 and 18.

    On Nov. 17, Alt will be at the Duane Reade store at Third Avenue and 58th Street, and on Nov. 18, she will be at the Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street store.
