  • Walgreens collaborates with CDC on comprehensive HIV treatment model

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — In support of the more than 1.1 million people living with HIV in the United States, Walgreens on Monday announced its collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop and evaluate a model of HIV patient-centered care through a national project aimed at advancing clinical integration and medication therapy management. The program is another way Walgreens is extending its commitment to improve HIV prevention and treatment outcomes.

  • Giant-Carlisle opens 10th Peapod pickup spot

    CARLISLE, Pa. – Giant Food Stores is further expanding its partnership with sister company Peapod with the launch of a new pick-up spot at a store in a town near Philadelphia, the chain, also known as Giant-Carlisle, said.

    Giant-Carlisle and online grocery service Peapod, both banners of Ahold USA, announced the launch of the pickup service in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. The store is the 10th Giant location in Pennsylvania to include a Peapod pickup spot.

    Getting the flu shot prevented a flu-like illness for 6.6 million people last season, according to the CDC. In addition, it prevented  3.2 million medically attended illnesses and 79,000 hospitalizations. Not getting the flu shot can have adverse consequences, such as not going on that long-awaited vacation.

  • Reports: Amazon takes on club retailers with Pantry

    NEW YORK — Club retailers like Costco and Sam's Club may have some competition from Amazon.com, according to published reports.

    USA Today reported Thursday that the Seattle-based online retailer was creating a new business called Pantry that would allow members of its Amazon Prime premium service to buy consumer packaged goods in large quantities in a box of a pre-set size. Members will be able to put in as many items as the box can fit, up to a certain weight limit, and Amazon will ship the box for a small fee, as long as everything fits and isn't too heavy.

  • Safeway makes its online shopping experience more accessible to those with visual impairments

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Friday announced a comprehensive initiative to make its online grocery shopping web site more accessible and usable for Safeway shoppers with visual impairments. The site enhancements are the result of collaboration between Safeway and several visually impaired customers.  

    Safeway has adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.0 level AA as its accessibility standard and has already made significant enhancements to its online shopping website to meet this standard and will continue to do so over the next year.

  • Reports: Instacart launches in Boston

    NEW YORK — A company that helps people shop for groceries is expanding into another city after a successful run in two others, according to published reports.

    TechCrunch reported that Instacart had launched in Boston. The company already operates in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, and it plans to serve the entire Boston area in the next few months.
