  • Reports: Costco looks to grow sales online

    NEW YORK — Club retailer Costco Wholesale is looking to grow its online retail presence, according to published reports.

    According to The Seattle Times, the company plans to introduce apps for Apple and Android devices this month in order to boost its online sales, which, at about $2 billion a year, are behind companies like Walmart and Amazon.

    Citing industry statistics, The Seattle Times reported that Costco ranked 17th among online retailers, while Amazon had the top spot, and Walmart was fourth.

    CHICAGO — Online grocer Peapod is bringing its scan-and-buy grocery ordering system to the Chicago El.

    The online retailer, owned by Netherlands-based Royal Ahold, announced Monday that it had placed its virtual store posters along the walls of a tunnel at the heavily trafficked State and Lake station of Chicago's rapid transit system.

    A wholly owned subsidiary of Kroger, The Little Clinic initially earned accreditation and the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval in 2009 and is only the second retail healthcare provider to receive reaccreditation from the Joint Commission.

  • Kmart sells prescription pet medications

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart is introducing prescription pet medications at its stores, the mass merchandise retail chain said Friday.

    The company said the new program was designed to make it easier for customers to get branded and generic pet drugs and more convenient to shop for the whole family. More than 60% of American households own a pet, and families spent more than $50 billion on their pets in 2011, according to the American Pet Products Association.
